Scheldt Cycle Route

A relaxed riverside ride along the Scheldt, made for easy days in the saddle. You’ll follow the river on long stretches of smooth asphalt and proper cycleways, linked by quiet back roads and the odd path. It’s basically flat from end to end, so it’s great for touring with bags, leisurely spins, or family rides.

Expect mostly paved surfaces with just a few short gravel or cobbled bits. Any city, touring, or gravel bike will feel at home here. The route hugs dikes and wetlands, passes working ports and historic towns, and serves up plenty of café stops and barge-watching along the way.

Ride it in either direction, split it into easy stages, and use local ferries or trains if you want to shorten a day. Wind can pick up on open river sections, so bring a layer. Lights help for tunnels or shaded crossings.
