Root River Pathway
Root River Pathway
A collection of 3 cycling routes.
Overview
About this collection
Easygoing riverside spin following the Root River. It’s mostly smooth pavement with a few short gravel bits, so any bike works (wider tires feel nicer on the gravel). The route is largely on dedicated cycleway with brief hops on quiet streets and almost no busy road. Gentle grades overall—think small rollers rather than climbs—about 35 m up and 47 m down in total.
Riding it end to end is roughly 19 km if you link the segments, but it’s super flexible for shorter out-and-backs. Expect shady stretches, bridges, and plenty of park stops. It’s family-friendly and great for a relaxed cruise or a mellow commute. Do keep an eye out for walkers and anglers near the water, and roll easy through tighter curves.
Access is easy from multiple parks and trailheads along the river, so you can hop on wherever’s convenient. A bell and lights help on shared paths and underpasses. Enjoy the river views without tangling with traffic.
