Hanover Green Ring

Green Ring Hanover

Hanover Green Ring

A collection of 7 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

A relaxed, car‑light loop circling Hanover through parks, canals, and city forest. The route links the Leine and Ihme rivers, the Mittelland Canal, Maschsee, and the edge of the Eilenriede—one of Europe’s largest urban forests—so you get a lot of green for very little traffic.

Expect a mix of smooth bike paths, quiet roads, and plenty of gravel tracks. It’s mostly flat, so it rides easy, but the changing surfaces make it more fun on a trekking or gravel bike. Road bikes can manage parts, but wider tires are your friend.

Because it’s a full ring, you can start anywhere and ride it in one go or split it into shorter bites—perfect for a half‑day spin or a full day out. Wayfinding is intuitive around waterways and parks, but a GPS track helps when paths weave through woods and fields.

Highlights: waterside cruising along the canal, shady forest stretches, and detours toward the Herrenhausen area for garden vibes. Pack snacks, refill at kiosks by the lakes and rivers, and enjoy an easy escape around the city without ever being far from a train back home.
