Coal Banks Trail (Lethbridge)
A cycling tour with 3 stages, starting in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
Overview
About this tour
Lethbridge’s signature citywide path network. Coal Banks Trail links parks, neighborhoods, and the Oldman River valley on mostly paved, separated paths, with a few short road connections. It’s friendly for everyday rides, family spins, and longer loops.
Expect gentle rolling terrain with some punchy climbs in and out of the coulees. The surfaces are almost entirely asphalt or other paved sections, so slicks or hybrids are perfect. Traffic exposure is low thanks to long stretches of dedicated cycleway.
Route highlights include valley views and a look at the iconic High Level Bridge, plus access to Henderson Lake, Indian Battle Park, the University of Lethbridge area, and the Helen Schuler Nature Centre. You’ll pass near the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden by Henderson Lake as well.
Tips: it can be breezy on the prairies, so pack water and a wind layer. Watch for pedestrians and wildlife on shared sections. Lighting helps at dusk, and there are washrooms and fountains at major parks in season.
