Hörnli Bike

A collection of 6 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

A mix of gravel tracks, forest roads, and quiet tarmac around the Hörnli ridge on the Zurich–Thurgau–St. Gallen border. Expect steady climbs with a few punchy ramps, rolling farm country, and big views—on a clear day you can spot Säntis and even Lake Constance. Perfect for gravel bikes and XC MTBs; skinny road tires won’t love the rough bits.

These routes link mellow backroads with classic Hörnli trails, so you can spin an easy loop or go all‑day. Common start points include Bauma, Steg im Tösstal, Wald ZH, or Fischingen—pick what’s handy and ride either direction.

Good to know: trails are shared with hikers and pass through farm areas, so slow down by homes and cows, and close gates behind you. After rain, the clay and forest sections can get slick; late spring to autumn rides best. Water and shops are mainly in the valleys, so top up before climbing. The Berggasthaus Hörnli is a popular coffee and cake stop near the top. E-bikes welcome, and there’s plenty of quiet road links if you want to shorten or soften the climbs.
