Overview

About this collection

A chilled riverside ride from the Spree’s sources in Upper Lusatia (Saxony) all the way into Berlin and on to Spandau where the Spree meets the Havel. It’s about 410 km, mostly flat and well signposted, so it’s easy to follow and great for multi‑day touring.

Expect mostly smooth asphalt with some gravel and paving stones through forests and villages. Touring tires or an e‑bike are perfect. You’ll roll past Bautzen’s old town, through Spremberg and Cottbus, then into the Spreewald biosphere reserve—think canals, wooden bridges, and famous pickles—before cruising via Fürstenwalde, Müggelsee, and right into central Berlin (East Side Gallery, Museum Island, Tiergarten) and out to Spandau.

It’s simple to split into day stages thanks to frequent train links (Bautzen, Cottbus, Fürstenwalde, many Berlin stations). Best season is spring to autumn. Shade in the forests, breezes on the meadows, and plenty of bakeries and beer gardens keep it fun. Watch for pedestrians on busy riverfront sections in Berlin and weekend crowds around Müggelsee and in the Spreewald. There are a few small ramps and bridges but no tough climbs—overall elevation gain is modest.

Short version: scenic, easy, and very bike‑friendly. Pack a lock, try the Spreewald gherkins, and enjoy rolling the Spree from source to city.
