Chasseral–Weissenstein Bike
Chasseral–Weissenstein MTB
A collection of 3 cycling routes.
Overview
About this collection
A Jura ridge classic linking the Chasseral to the Weissenstein above Solothurn. Expect a long, scenic day with big views over Lakes Biel and Neuchâtel and, on clear days, the Alps. The route is mostly unpaved—lots of farm tracks and gravel with short path and quiet-road links—so a mountain bike (or tough gravel setup) is ideal. Roughly 88 km with about 2900 m of climbing, rolling across forests, open pastures, and limestone sections. You’ll pass gates and cattle grids and it can be windy on the ridge, so pack layers and enough water.
Easy access by public transport on both ends: Chasseral side via Biel/Bienne, La Neuveville, or Saint-Imier; Weissenstein via Solothurn/Oberdorf (cable car nearby). Best from late spring to autumn; avoid snow and go after dry spells for the nicest surfaces. Plenty of spots to refuel in Jura villages and at mountain inns along the way. A tough but super rewarding point‑to‑point ride.
