F79 Sint-Truiden–Tongeren Cycle Highway (proposed)
A collection of 5 cycling routes. The F79 links Sint-Truiden’s orchard country with historic Tongeren, Belgium’s oldest city. It’s planned as a fast, mostly segregated cycle route across rolling Haspengouw. Parts are already rideable on smooth asphalt; a few gaps still use quiet access roads or temporary detours.
Expect gentle up-and-downs and big views over fruit fields. Surfaces are largely paved, with the odd stretch of paving stones or concrete near villages. It works for commuters and weekend spins alike; road, gravel, or city bikes will be fine.
Good to know: both ends have train stations for easy access. Spring is peak blossom season around Sint-Truiden; Sundays in Tongeren mean the famous antiques market. Do watch for farm traffic and loose debris where works are ongoing.
As the project evolves, route signage and alignment may change—check the latest map before you roll.
