Overview

About this collection

A Jura-to-Mittelland ride linking the Passwang area with the rolling fields of Oberaargau. It’s a hilly day out with about 1,700 m of climbing and a touch more descending, mixing long ramps with a few short kickers.

The route is mostly paved and sticks to quiet backroads and village streets, with a few short sections of gravel, farm tracks, and the odd cobbled bit. It’s fine on a road bike with 28–32 mm tires; a gravel or endurance bike is perfect. Most of it is peaceful, but expect a couple of busier stretches—stay visible and ride single file.

Scenery shifts from shady Jura forests to open farmland and small hamlets, with wide views across the Swiss Mittelland. Ride it either way: starting near Passwang gets the bigger climbs done early; coming from Oberaargau stacks the elevation later. Best from spring to autumn—weather can change fast up high.

Plenty of villages en route for water and snacks (fountains and bakeries are common), and public transport in Oberaargau makes it easy to shorten or bail if needed.
