Rhine Valley Cycle Route

A relaxed ride that follows the Rhine through the valley on a mix of riverside tracks, quiet village roads, and signed cycleways. It’s mostly paved (lots of smooth asphalt), with a few short gravel and cobbled bits, plus the odd wooden board or steps to navigate. Elevation stays gentle overall—think easy rolling rather than real climbs—so it’s great for touring or linking a couple of mellow day rides.

Expect big river views, floodplain nature, and historic town centers with plenty of stops for coffee and snacks. Wayfinding is straightforward and services are frequent, and you’re rarely far from a train station if you want to hop on or shorten a stage.

Bikes: touring/trekking and gravel bikes are ideal; road bikes are fine with care on the brief rough sections. Families and casual riders will be comfortable on most parts—just watch the short connectors on busier roads and dismount where pedestrian zones or steps appear.

Ride it in either direction; wind along the river can make one way feel faster. After heavy rain, some gravel or riverside paths can be soft, and occasional high water may close levee sections. Pick a favorite stretch or go end‑to‑end for a classic Rhine valley tour.
