Four Countries Border Cycle Route: Main Route

Vier-Länder-Grenzradweg: Hauptstrecke

A collection of 5 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

Rolling across borders instead of just seeing them on a map: The main route of the Four-Country Border Cycle Path is a longer, cross-border tour with plenty of variety. You’ll mostly ride on paved surfaces – lots of asphalt and concrete – with some cobbled sections and short gravel stretches. Wider tires are comfortable; with a road bike, you’ll need to be a bit cautious. The route mixes quiet side roads, paths, and tracks. There are also sections on busier roads and through town centres – stay alert, especially in traffic. The profile is mostly moderate, with some climbs. Start and finish are flexible; you can join almost anywhere and break the tour into suitable stages. Best time is spring to autumn. Pack lights, a repair kit, and a rain jacket. For border crossings: don’t forget your ID. In short: An international loop for those who like changing countries without leaving their bike – varied, doable, and never boring.
