Emmental–Entlebuch Bike Routes

A collection of 8 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

Rolling rides through cheese country and the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch in central Switzerland. Expect hilly terrain with punchy climbs and big views, a mix of quiet farm roads, cycleways, and a few short links on busier roads. Surfaces are mostly smooth tarmac with some gravel and hardpack, so a gravel or endurance road bike is perfect (road tires work if you’re okay with light gravel). The routes weave along the Emme and Kleine Emme valleys, over ridges, and past classic Swiss villages and dairies. It’s a great pick for riders who like scenic effort over flat speed. Go when it’s snow-free, pack layers for changeable weather, and plan coffee or bakery stops in the valleys. You’ll hear cowbells, cross the odd wooden bridge, and enjoy grin-worthy descents.
