EuroVelo 19 – Meuse à Vélo (France)

A collection of 24 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

Follow the Meuse valley through France, from the land of sources in Haute-Marne to the Belgian border. This collection brings together the French sections of EuroVelo 19: towpaths, greenways, and small roads closest to the river, between forests, meanders, and Ardennes cliffs. Notable stops: Verdun with its memorials, Sedan with its huge fortress, Charleville-Mézières with the Place Ducale, then Givet dominated by Fort de Charlemont.

The surface is mostly asphalted, with some gravel or cobbled sections and segments on open roads. A touring bike or hybrid works very well; slightly wider tires make unpaved sections more comfortable. EV19/Meuse à Vélo signage is generally present but can vary by department, so an OSM route remains useful. The valley towns offer plenty of options to resupply and sleep without stress.

Perfect for a leisurely multi-day journey along the water, or to pick day loops around the main towns. River atmosphere, locks, stone villages, and typical Meuse valley panoramas: simple, smooth, refreshing.
