D11: Ostsee – Oberbayern

A collection of 52 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

The D11 connects the Baltic Sea coast with Upper Bavaria – a classic north-south tour across Germany. You'll mostly ride paved sections on quiet roads and bike paths, with occasional gravel, field and forest trails, and short stretches on busier roads. Ideal for touring or gravel bikes; with slightly wider tires, you'll ride more comfortably.

From the wind at the coast to the first hills of the Alpine foothills: the landscape is very varied, with lots of water, open spaces, and more elevation gains later on. Plan in stages, check surfaces and gradients in advance, and bring lights for passing through towns and country roads.

Best time: spring to autumn. Watch out for weather changes and headwinds in the north. The route is signposted in many places (D-route), but carrying an up-to-date GPS track is still worthwhile. Perfect for those who want to experience Germany from the sea to the Alpine foothills.
