National cycling route number 5 runs from Pákozd to Csongrád, passing through the landscapes of central Hungary. The start is around Lake Velence, and the finish is in the riverside town of Csongrád on the Tisza river.

The surface is mostly asphalt and other paved roads, but expect short dirt and sandy sections, as well as some cobblestones and concrete in the settlements. The types of roads are mixed: longer sections on busy roads, many separate cycle paths, quiet side roads and some dirt tracks. Overall, it is rather flat with small undulations – comfortably passable at a relaxed pace.

For bike choice, a touring or gravel bike is ideal; slightly wider tires (about 32–40 mm) are useful on loose surfaces. On busy sections, be visible and follow the rules; the separate cycle paths offer real relief. No worries about water and food, many settlements along the route make rest planning easy.

A nice route for a longer single-day challenge or a relaxed 2–3 day country tour. Start at Lake Velence, finish on the Tisza riverside – a cool contrast.
