About this collection

Fancy a relaxed ride with a touch of adventure? The Zoutmarkeroute mainly combines quiet roads and good cycle paths with the occasional trail or country track. Most of it is paved (asphalt and cobblestones), but expect some gravel/loose stones and a few short sandy sections.

There is no fixed start or end point, so you can join the route wherever suits you and ride it clockwise or counterclockwise. Ideal for those who mainly like riding on asphalt but don't mind going off the beaten track now and then.

Bike advice: a trekking or gravel bike is perfect. You can manage with a city bike too, provided you have slightly wider tyres (±32 mm or more) for the unpaved sections. After rain, the sandy and gravel stretches can be soft or loose, so adjust your tyre pressure and pace accordingly.

In short: lots of quiet roads and segregated cycle paths, mixed with short bits of track and trail. Pleasantly varied, doable in a morning or afternoon, and great for stopping off for coffee wherever you fancy.
