Burgdorf Cycling Loop

A scenic loop around Burgdorf in the Emmental, this collection strings together quiet country roads and farm tracks with a few short road sections. Expect a mixed surface: plenty of paved stretches, regular gravel, the odd cobbled patch, and the occasional wooden bridge. Most of the time you’re rolling on calm lanes; busy road bits are brief.

It’s classic Emmental: gentle hills, tidy farms, and broad views. Swing by Burgdorf’s old town and castle if you like a culture stop, and keep an eye out for the Emme river along the way. After rain, some farm tracks can be muddy.

Bike-wise, a gravel or trekking setup with comfy tires is ideal, but a touring bike works too. There’s food and water in towns along the route, and you’ll find plenty of spots for a picnic with a view. Burgdorf has good rail connections, so it’s easy to start and finish by train.

Good for a full day out, best from spring to autumn. Watch for tractors, cattle crossings, and hikers on shared paths—ring your bell and enjoy the ride.
