Hercules–Wartburg Cycle Route

Ride from Eisenach to Creuzburg on a scenic leg of the Hercules–Wartburg Cycle Route. You’ll roll past views of Wartburg Castle, follow the Werra through quiet countryside, and finish by Creuzburg’s medieval stone bridge and hilltop castle. Surfaces are mixed: mostly asphalt and other paved stretches, with bits of farm track, some gravel, and the occasional cobblestone through villages. The route uses plenty of quiet roads and paths, with a few short links on busier roads. A touring, trekking, or gravel bike is perfect; road bikes can manage with care on rough sections. Start with a detour up to Wartburg Castle (a UNESCO site) if you’re up for a short climb, and wrap up with a riverside break in Creuzburg. Expect gentle rolling terrain, lots of green, and classic Thuringian views—an easygoing half-day to relaxed day out depending on pace and stops.
