EuroVelo 15: Rhine Route (Switzerland)

A collection of 18 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

Ride the Swiss stretch of EuroVelo 15 as it follows the Rhine from the Alps to Basel. Expect big scenery early on, mellow riverside cruising later, and plenty of postcard towns along the way.

The route traces the river’s journey past deep gorges and alpine valleys, then swings by Lake Constance and continues along the High Rhine to Basel. Highlights include the Rhine Gorge (Ruinaulta), the lively shores of Lake Constance, and the thunder of the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen.

It’s mostly paved and well signposted, with long sections on dedicated cycleways and quiet roads. You’ll hit some gravel and tracks here and there, plus occasional busier stretches near towns, but it’s very rideable on a touring or endurance bike; wider tires make the mixed surfaces easier.

Once you leave the high country, the gradients ease and the riding gets flatter and faster. Trains and ferries pop up along the route, making it easy to break the trip into stages or bail out if the weather turns.

Come for the river, stay for the views, lakeside swims, and café stops—this is classic Switzerland by bike.
