Saint-Jacques à vélo via Vézelay

A collection of 44 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

A great classic on two wheels to Compostela: the Vézelay variant. Around Vézelay and its basilica, the route links small roads, cycle paths, and some stretches on trails. It is generally rideable and mostly paved, with some gravel or cobbled sections. A touring or gravel bike works very well.

The route crosses countryside and villages with rich heritage, with a sometimes hilly profile. Move at your own pace, in stages, enjoying the villages, panoramas, and cultural/terroir stops. Where signage exists, follow "Saint-Jacques à vélo"; elsewhere, be cautious on busier sections.

Quick tips:

  • 32–40 mm tires for comfort;
  • lights/vest useful for urban crossings;
  • water and a snack between services.

A lovely way to experience the spirit of the path, bike version, along the historic Vézelay route.
