Mechernich Cycle Route 8

A varied loop around Mechernich in the Eifel (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). It strings together quiet roads, village streets, and farm paths—mostly smooth asphalt with a few short gravel stretches and the odd cobblestone patch. The terrain rolls with a couple of punchy climbs and easy descents, nice for a steady spin without going all‑out. Start anywhere along the loop, whatever’s convenient. Traffic is mostly light, but there are brief busier sections—ride single file and use lights if visibility’s poor. 30–35 mm tires are ideal; an endurance road or gravel bike feels perfect, while standard road bikes work with a bit of care on the rough bits. Expect open Eifel views, fields, and woodland edges along the way. Great for an after‑work ride or a relaxed weekend outing. Bring a spare tube and be mindful of walkers on shared paths.
