About this collection

Ride the EuroVelo 13 along the Austria–Czech border, tracing the line of the former Iron Curtain. Expect mostly smooth asphalt and other paved surfaces, with regular gravel and farm-track sections, plus the odd cobbled village street. It links up quiet roads and tracks, with a few short busy connectors and bits of signed cycleway.

Scenery swings from forested hills and river valleys to border villages and open fields—think edges of the Böhmerwald/Šumava and the Dyje/Thaya valley. History is everywhere: bunkers, memorials, and old border markers pop up along the way.

A touring or gravel bike is ideal. Wider tires help on the gravel, and weather can change fast in the hills, so pack layers. Villages on both sides make it easy to refuel, and you’ll often ride right beside the border—keep an eye out for EV13 signs and local waymarks.

If you’re into quiet countryside, rolling terrain with the occasional punchy climb, and a strong sense of place, this AT–CZ stretch is a great pick.
