About this collection

Follow the Rhine through Baden-Württemberg on Germany’s D-Route 8. This collection strings together riverside cycleways, quiet country roads, and plenty of dike-top tracks and paths—so it’s not all tarmac. You’ll get long smooth asphalt sections for easy spinning, mixed with chunky gravel and the odd stretch of cobbles or paving stones. Wider tires will keep things comfy.

Expect classic big-river vibes: open views, floodplain forests, and historic river towns for easy coffee stops. In cities and promenades you’ll share space with pedestrians; elsewhere it’s peaceful and wide open. There are a few short links on busier roads, but most of it feels calm and scenic.

Ride a full tour along the Rhine or dip in for a day ride—either way it’s a rewarding slice of southwestern Germany. Wayfinding is straightforward on D-Route 8, and the route’s mix of surfaces keeps it interesting without getting too technical.
