Neuchâtel Bike

A collection of 9 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

This collection strings together the best riding around the Neuchâtel region in western Switzerland: lakefront spins, vineyard rollers, and Jura forest climbs. Expect a lot of gravel and farm tracks with stretches of smooth asphalt to link it all up. Most routes stay on tracks and quiet roads, with only brief bits on busier traffic.

There’s plenty of elevation in the mix—around 5,900 m of climbing across the collection—so bring low gears and take your time. A gravel bike with wide tires or a hardtail MTB is ideal. Surfaces range from compact gravel and dirt to the occasional cobble or concrete ramp.

Pick a short cruise along Lake Neuchâtel, a vineyard loop, or head up into the Jura for cooler air and big views over the lake and, on clear days, the Alps. You can stitch a few sections together for a solid day out or make it a full weekend.

Best when the trails are dry. Pack layers: it’s warmer by the water and noticeably cooler up high. Cafés and water are easier to find in the valleys than on the ridges.
