Water Castles Route
Wasserburgen-Route Etappe 6a
A collection of 3 cycling routes.
Overview
About this collection
Compact section of the well-known Water Castles Route in the Rhineland. Stage 6a mostly takes you along quiet secondary roads and agricultural paths, passing water castles, parks, and fields. The surface is mostly asphalt; there are short sections of gravel, cobblestones, and some setts – suitable for touring or gravel bikes. Short stretches on busier roads and through pedestrian zones may occur.
The Water Castles Route is a roughly 470 km loop connecting over 100 castles, palaces, and mills between Cologne, Bonn, and Aachen. Mostly flat to gently rolling – perfect for relaxed cruising with photo stops and café breaks.
Tip: It can get bumpy in town centers, and loose gravel may be found on field paths. Signage is generally good, but a map or GPX track helps at junctions. Ideal for half a day of culture and landscape by bike.
