The city of Stuttgart and its surroundings offer several attractive routes for cyclists. Whether you head just outside town for the TV tower or the Max-Eyth-See lake, or go on a longer tour to visit the Roman limes, a UNESCO World Heritage site, or the nature reserve of the Swabian-Franconian Forest, the hills of the region draw you out of Stuttgart to explore its natural surroundings.

EuroVelo 15 – also known as the Rhine cycle route – is one of the premium cycle routes in Europe, and rightfully so. Its 1230 kilometers (764 miles) cut a stunning path from the Swiss mountain resort of Andermatt through Germany, France and the Netherlands to the North Sea. Along the route, you’ll see Lake Constance, Basel, Strasbourg, Cologne, Utrecht and Rotterdam. Those are all the arguments you’ll ever need to convince any bike lover to agree to cycling this route with you.

Plenty of small lakes and waterfalls – formed centuries ago by glaciers – are waiting to be discovered on your bicycle tour in the beautiful Allgäu region, which lies in both Baden-Württemberg and the neighboring province of . The town of Kempten is the starting point of many routes, some leading all the way to or to the city of Augsburg. The landscape is dominated by gentle hills with the promise of easy climbs and speedy descents.

Variety is key along the Neckar river valley. Setting out near the river’s source, cyclists sail through empty spaces and deserted landscapes. A few miles later, cities like Stuttgart and Heidelberg await, vibrant places full of culture. A 366 kilometers (227 miles) long bicycle route with much to offer!

Unique landscapes feature along every major bike route in the famous Black Forest region: the , the Black Forest Panorama cycle route or the Southern Black Forest cycle route. The views are generally something to behold. Wherever the route winds up a hill, a spectacular panorama awaits. And all with relatively little effort.
