Cycling day trip from Tuenmen to Tai Po

This route takes you from Tuen Mun all the way to Tai Po, covering just under 47 km—plenty of time in the saddle and a real adventure across the western New Territories. Starting in Tuen Mun, known for its harbour and beaches, you'll quickly leave urban bustle behind, winding your way through a mix of quiet roads and paths. About half the ride is pretty tranquil, so you’ll get to cruise in peace, though there are a few busy stretches—heads up for those.

Be ready for a bit of climbing! You’ll rack up around 1,160 meters of ascent, and the highest point tops out just below 400 meters—expect some great views. The surfaces vary a lot, so a hybrid or gravel bike works best. Expect smooth tarmac, some asphalt, but also long stretches where the surface is unknown or mixed.

You’ll finish up in Tai Po, a lively town that’s perfect for a post-ride snack beside the Lam Tsuen River. With its market streets and riverside parks, Tai Po is a great spot to take a breather and celebrate a solid day out.
