Cycling day trip from Zernez to Livigno

Get ready for an epic ride: this route takes you from the alpine village of Zernez in Switzerland down to the lively resort town of Livigno, Italy, spanning about 52 km through breathtaking mountain scenery. Zernez, known as the gateway to Switzerland’s only national park, makes for a picture-perfect starting point with its charming stone buildings and big mountain views.

The journey itself is a real adventure, featuring a big ascent (over 2,100 meters!) and a thrilling descent into Livigno. You’ll be cruising mostly on tracks and paths, with a mix of surfaces—expect a lot of gravel and unpaved sections, so wider tires are your friend. The route climbs up to nearly 2,900 meters, winding through wild alpine valleys and, quite possibly, past some grazing marmots.

The finish line is Livigno: duty-free, dotted with cool cafes, and famous for its cycling culture and mountain air. It’s a challenging ride, but the stunning landscapes and the sense of crossing between countries make it totally worth it. Don’t forget your camera (or your passport)!
