Cycling day trip from Hochfeld to Meerbusch

Roll out from Duisburg-Hochfeld by the Rhine—home to the riverside Rheinpark and plenty of industrial heritage—and point your wheels south along the river. The route hugs the embankment for long stretches, mixing riverside paths with quiet back roads through floodplain meadows and small neighborhoods. It’s an easy, mostly flat spin at about 28 km with only ~40 m of total climbing.

Surface-wise it’s largely smooth: roughly 9 in 10 kilometers are paved (mostly asphalt), with a few short gravel or dike sections—fine for any touring or city bike. Traffic is light too, with the bulk on bike paths and calm streets, so you can settle into the Rhine views and ship-spotting.

You’ll finish in leafy Meerbusch in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, known for its green floodplains and village feel just outside Düsseldorf. Perfect spot to unwind at a café before hopping a train or rolling on along the RheinRadweg.
