Cycling day trip from Dresden to Pirna

This ride takes you from the vibrant heart of Dresden to the charming town of Pirna, following mostly smooth, paved surfaces perfect for a relaxing spin. Starting in Dresden, known for its stunning Baroque architecture and riverside scenery, you’ll quickly join the Elbe Cycle Path—one of Germany’s most popular cycleways! The ride is mostly flat, with just a gentle ascent and descent along the way, so it’s great for cyclists of all levels.

You'll hug the Elbe River for much of the journey, passing pretty meadows, villages, and maybe even a steamboat or two. Most of the way is on dedicated cycle paths and quiet roads—ideal for soaking in the views without worrying about traffic. After roughly 23 km, you’ll roll into Pirna, often called the “Gateway to Saxon Switzerland” for its picturesque old town and its proximity to the famous sandstone peaks.
