Cycling day trip from Petrila to Novaci

Set off from Petrila, a mining town nestled in the Jiu Valley, and gear up for an unforgettable ride to Novaci, at the foot of the Parâng Mountains. This 89 km route is not just a ride—it's an adventure across some truly wild Carpathian landscapes!

You'll rack up some serious elevation: topping out at 2,119 meters with over 4,000 meters of climbing and just as much descending. Don’t be fooled—this route is tough, with almost half of the distance on natural tracks, and a decent portion on unpaved or gravel surfaces. You'll punch through dense forests, roll along mountain ridges, and maybe spot a shepherd or two watching over their flocks.

Once you roll into Novaci, catch your breath and soak in the chilled-out mountain town vibe. Novaci acts as a gateway to the famous Transalpina road—one of Romania’s highest and most scenic drives. Be prepared for changing weather, remote stretches, and plenty of photo stops.
