Cycling day trip from Otopeni to Tunari

Here’s a relaxed cycling route for you, taking you from Otopeni to the little town of Tunari, just north of Bucharest. Otopeni is mostly known as the home of Romania’s busiest airport, Henri Coandă International, but there’s a surprising amount of green space around once you escape the main streets. Heading north, the route balances chunks of quiet roads and countryside tracks, giving you plenty of peace — just watch for the occasional patch of gravel or rougher ground!

The total trip is around 21 km, gentle and mostly flat with only minor ups and downs. About one-third is unpaved or gravel, but nothing too gnarly, and you’ll spend a fair bit rolling along serene rural tracks. Tunari itself is a sleepy commuter town, but it’s a calm place to end your ride, maybe grab a snack, and enjoy a different side of Ilfov County.

Bring water, and mid-width tires will make the variable surfaces easier. If you enjoy cycling away from city traffic and don’t mind a little adventure, this should be a pleasant ride!
