By bicycle from Skopje to Chucher-Sandevo

Ready to escape Skopje for a scenic ride? This 19 km route takes you north from the vibrant heart of North Macedonia’s capital all the way up to the peaceful hilltop village of Chucher-Sandevo.

Departing from Skopje’s urban energy, you’ll gradually swap city streets for quieter country roads. Nearly half the route follows quiet, low-traffic roads—perfect for relaxed pedaling as you head into the countryside, with a solid dose of ascending (there’s almost 300 meters in total climb, so get ready for a workout!). The views only get better as you approach Chucher-Sandevo, perched over 500 meters above sea level, known for its cool air and panoramic views over the Skopje valley.

The route is mostly paved, but keep your eyes open for segments where the tarmac fades—there’s a bit of mixed surface, with some gravel and a few stretches missing full pavement, especially as you approach the village. Bring a spare tube just in case, and don’t forget your water bottle—the climb can be thirsty work!

By the end, you’ll leave the hum of the city behind and discover a lesser-known side of Skopje’s outskirts. Enjoy the tranquility!
