Overview

About this route

For those who would like to discover the secret of the Owl Mountains, I suggest the route of the tunnels of the Riesen complex. We start the trip in Jugowice. Just before the bridge over the Bystrzyca River leading to Jedlina Zdr贸j, we turn left under the viaduct of the picturesque, now disused 艢widnica - Jedlina Zdr贸j railway line. Our route climbs here through a ravine between the Jawornickie Department and the W艂odarz massif. The black Martyrology Trail runs through here. After two kilometers, on the left side, we come across a plaque commemorating prisoners of war murdered during the construction of the Riesen complex. On the mountainside behind the plaque are the Jawornik tunnels, not open to visitors. We continue riding; here on the left side of the road, amid the trees, we find the ruins of SS barracks huts. We turn right. Now we go uphill on a gravel road, reaching the W艂odarz tunnels. If we have time, there is an opportunity to rest here, eat a hot meal, and above all to explore the tunnels. After the break, we move on. We return to asphalt, now turning right and continuing along the black trail, reaching Walim. In the centre of the large village, we turn right and head south. Just beyond the sign marking the end of Walim, we leave the main road and reach the next tunnels, Rzeczka Walim. Here too, there is an opportunity to visit the underground tunnels. To get to the next tunnels, we must keep going uphill; just before the Sokola Pass, in Rzeczka we turn right, and after circumnavigating the Sok贸艂 mountain, we go steeply down to Sierpnica. On this descent, great care is needed as the road is cut every few dozen meters by concrete gutters, making the downhill ride difficult. In the centre of the village, beside the church, we turn right and after a few hundred metres reach more tunnels, Os贸wka. These underground tunnels are also open to tourists. There are still the Sobo艅 tunnels on the other side of the Pod Moszn膮 Pass, but they are not open for visits. We return, initially on gravel, then asphalt, passing through Grz膮dki, steeply down to Walim and then on to Jugowice.

Me:

It was another day of my trip in the Sudetes. Wroc艂aw - Jelenia G贸ra, Jelenia - Krzesz贸w - Walim and the route around the Owl Mountains. During this trip, I was unlucky. I set off from Wroc艂aw in summer. In the Owl Mountains, I encountered winter.
