8. Etappe: Vinales - Manuel Lazo

To get from here to the west, the route via Pons is recommended. You leave the Viñales valley passing the impressive mogotes going west on a barely trafficked undulating road. After about 20 km, you pass in Moncada the cave system 'Cuevas de St. Tomas', one of the largest cave systems in Latin America. An interesting guided tour is offered. The route now leads through almost entirely flat terrain, leisurely along the river; this area is charming and untouched by tourism. After about 105 km you reach Sandino, where there are some casas that should be booked early. Otherwise, there is a simple casa in Manuel Lazo.
