The actual distance is 47Km.
Until Sykoyrio the road is mainly plain, just 1,5Km of drag before the village.
The climb until Spilia is 11-12Km (the road signs are writing 10, though).
It's steep from the beginning and for the 6 first km. Then there's a little respite (less than 1 Km) and it steeps up for 1-1,5 km again. Then there's a swift descent of 1,5 km. In the end of this, there's a bridge and immediately the last 3 km till Spilia. They're quite difficult.
After the first spring, we find the village's square. Till the other spring at the exit of the village the road is paved with cobblestones, so you have to be cautious.
The climb to the refuge is easier. It begins with a little descent and after a left turn the road kicks up, but only for a little. Then we enter to a plateau that's rolling enough. After the first "photo" point the gradient kicks a little, but non something to worry about.
At 37,5 Km, there's a crossroad (unpaved road to Stomio and Karitsa). From there we have a difficult 1 Km, a respite for some 800m and at the 39 Km we have a really steep section for 1,5Km. (strangely the hairpins are steeper than the ramps!!!). From there on the road is rolling enough, with the exception of 1-2 hairpins (as I described above).
The road surface is quite new but be aware of fallen rocks here and there. Also, during the descend spare the heroics: especially the Spilia-Sykourio section is quite technical and with substantial traffic.
Opposite of the refuge, there are two springs.
Just before the tarmac again a spring with lots of shade.
