Coimbra - Figueira

The route is probably the best compromise between distance and difficulty: flat and direct, with some sections in poor condition but surmountable.Within that criterion, it will also be the most enjoyable due to the contact with nature and little traffic (or even none in some parts).It starts at one end of the choupal in Coimbra, crosses it and continues along the country road that follows the irrigation canal, quite well known among many cyclists in the region.This road consists of straight segments bordered by the fertile fields of Baixo Mondego where one can observe many buzzards, storks, herons, crows, etc.It is a road designed for agricultural workers, it has very little traffic.Before it ends, it continues straight to the water sports track, about 2 km long, and reaches Montemor-o-Velho. To continue through the countryside, there are some alternatives, on this map I chose the most unequivocal.It is important to reach Ereira and then follow a beautiful country road. Further ahead, after passing under the motorway and the railway line, one circles a power plant (?) and takes a road without shoulders already within the towns up to Figueira-da-Foz (watch out for traffic).About 2 hours should be sufficient (it depends on the physical preparation of each).
