this itinerary is magnificent, it reaches up to the crater of etna and then descends and runs along the slopes, excellent panorama, you start from the port of catania and proceed along via etnea and climb and the houses become rarer and rarer until you find yourself alone just a few meters from the crater.

make sure to check the stability of the volcano, it is not uncommon to witness lava flows and explosions, which although spectacular are dangerous, so follow the route, best if you are two of whom one is an expert! it is very easy to get lost!

it is very tiring, the slope becomes very tough, but the effort will give way to the joy of being able to reach the top of the volcano, from which you can enjoy a view of catania and its sea.

in some places the road is very close to solidified and sharp lava and on the hottest days the heat is felt much more.

upon leaving catania one must proceed with caution! and have plenty of water supply.

the best months are spring, and of course months when there are no lava movements in the volcano, winter is not recommended at high altitudes as it may snow!
