An acceptable route with terrain that varies from flat to hilly to steep. The segment from Orinda to Pinole is pleasant, with little traffic (this was done on a weekday), unlike the segment from Pinole to Cloverdale. From Cloverdale to Point Arena, the hills get progressively worse -- and even moreso if the heat is up -- with two long 16% grade climbs on the narrow road between Boonville and Point Arena. Bring plenty of water. (I went through six liters). An alternative is to continue on Hwy 128 past Boonville to Hwy 1 on the coast, just below Mendocino; this will add about 15 miles to the route. You will still have some challenging hills between Cloverdale and Boonville (as well as between Boonville and Hwy 1), but you will avoid the 16% grade hills (and narrow road) going west of Boonville. The Coastal segment is predictably beautiful, and the tail winds serve to both refresh and facilitate.
