Overview

About this route

La Vallée Thore: It stretches for 35 km, separating the Montagne Noire from the plateau of Angles, the valley has always benefited from water, as early as the Middle Ages mentions of mills can be found. THE VALLEY OF THORÉ: Gateway to the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park, the Thoré valley opens a passage to the Mediterranean. The villages crossed testify to its economic expansion since the 16th century with glass, then in the 19th century and early 20th century thanks to water, wood, and textiles. SAINT-AMANS-SOULT: Former royal bastide from the 13th century and birthplace of Marshal Soult, companion of Napoleon, who added his surname to the name of the city. To discover: the church with its octagonal bell tower - the Soult-Berg castle and the mausoleum. LAKE OF SAINTS-PEYRES: The oldest water reservoir in Midi-Pyrénées. In a heavily wooded environment of 5600 ha, this artificial lake with a perimeter of 32 km offers numerous activities. LABASTIDE-ROUAIROUX: This bastide developed significantly in the 19th century due to the textile industry. An unmissable stop, the Departmental Museum of Textiles showcases the wealth of industrial craftsmanship in the valley. Demonstrations of weaving, guided tours, creative workshops, and temporary exhibitions are offered. To discover: the church - the dolmen of Ganthe and the royal boundary stones - the fabrics of the Montagne Noire. ALBINE: On an ancient Roman road, this locality houses a (private) château and a church from the 18th century with remarkable stained glass windows. SAINT-AMANS-VALTORET: The origins of the town date back to the 8th century. Behind the monumental gate of the castle, at the heart of the village, one discovers a Florentine façade dating back to 1834. One must direct their steps towards the western tower and descend towards the old moats to be surprised by the other face of the castle, that of the seigneurial fortress of the Génibrouse, which dates back to the 15th century.
