About this route

1

A donation for services rendered to the Imperial Crown. Another mansion that, if restored, could impress tourists is the one that belonged to the Athanaszievich family in the village of Valeapai, located in Caraș-Severin County, part of the Ramna municipality. The lands in the village were donated in the early 19th century to brothers Marcel and Emil Athanaszievich, who were part of a Serbian noble family, for services rendered to the Imperial Crown. The construction of the mansion began in 1840, with Serbian craftsmen and Italian settlers, and several annex buildings, an ice house, and a mill were erected around it. The neoclassical construction, like most mansions in the region at that time, has impressive dimensions, with a vaulted basement and an upper floor that dominates the entire area. The facades were decorated with pediments and pilasters with Tuscan capitals, of which today only a few traces can be seen. The windows on the upper floor had neoclassical frames and wooden shutters, the walls are made of brick, and the roof, which had a wooden structure, is now collapsed. This castle was also surrounded by a wonderful park, with rare species of trees, which the locals considered a true paradise, but which did not survive the communist onslaught. In the second half of the 19th century, the estate, inherited by a niece of the Athanaszievich brothers, was leased by her husband, Baron Tallian Béla, to Ambrozy Béla, who mortgaged it, and after the First World War, the property was purchased by the Riesz family, who owned it during the interwar years. The mansion was nationalized from the last owner, Petru Riesz, it was transformed into a maternity hospital, then became the headquarters of CAP and a lodging place for seasonal workers, and after 1989 it was abandoned and left to decay. It was returned to the owners after being vandalized and continues to fall into ruin before our eyes, although it is classified as a historical monument which, if restored, could be an emblematic place for the village.
