Mendelpass Rundtour (49 km)

Note: The GPS track does not exactly correspond to the route taken the approach to Mendelpass is initially quite pleasant up to Steinegger, but becomes demanding as it goes up through the forest towards the pass road. The SS42 is gentle with inclines of 5 to 7 % as road cyclists easily overtake me, I'm riding at a leisurely pace on my Tour+. Even though it stretches out, the upper part is nice to cycle with a good view. The last time I was up there was in the early 80s with my Bigbike, when it was still quite remote; today it's quite busy. At the lift, I don't initially know how the route goes, there is a prohibition sign. So I simply ride up below the lift, it's intense, impossible to do without a motor. Once there, it becomes much more enjoyable but there are already S3 sections where I had to climb at around 40% in a gully over a rock edge (I didn't manage to get out of the pedals in time), it was borderline and could have gone badly. But up to the Malga di Romeno, it’s fun to ride, up and down mostly S0/S1. After that, it’s a nice descent, losing quite a bit of surface. Up to Amblar, you can really let it roll, new asphalt covering, you can easily hit 60 until the next curve. From Amblar, it follows the Rio di Linor, very attractive nature and comfortably pedalable. Then you encounter the bike path to Mendelpass, great to ride on. Going down the pass, you don’t go particularly fast, around 50 km/h due to the bumpy surface.
