Berlin Wall Memorial The Berlin Wall Memorial is the central memorial site of German division, located in the middle of the capital. Situated at the historic site on Bernauer Strasse, it extends along 1.4 kilometers of the former border strip. The memorial contains the last piece of Berlin Wall with the preserved grounds behind it and is thus able to convey an impression of how the border fortifications developed until the end of the 1980s. The events that took place here together with the preserved historical remnants and traces of border obstacles on display help to make the history of Germany's division comprehensible to visitors. The memorial is part of the Berlin Wall Foundation, which also includes the Marienfelde Refugee Center Museum, the central site dedicated to the history of flight and emigration in divided Germany. MOBILE TOURGUIDE Visitors to the Berlin Wall Memorial who have a smartphone or a tablet computer with internet access at their disposal have the opportunity to select an individual tour of the memorial grounds for themselves on the memorial's mobile website berliner-mauer.mobi.

Baumkronenpfad Beelitz Tree & Time If you are someone like me who is in love with abandoned buildings, this is the place for you. It is located around 1 hour south of Berlin in Beelitz. I spent one of my favorite day trips ever there. The place consists of a few sections, it is huge. This place was abandoned after WWII, it was an isolation camp for the working population of the imperial capital Berlin to recover from Tuberculosis. There's a unique tree top path to walk around the premises of the different buildings. However if you want to check the inside of the buildings, you need to book a separate ticket for each that cost extra and doing a guided tour is the only way to check these buildings out Guided tours available: - Alpenhaus - 1hr - Three Buildings Tour (Women pavilion, Cook house, surgical ward) - 1.5hr, recommended! - Old surgery building - 1hr I recommend to get the entrance ticket and book at least one of the guided tours to get to see the inside of the building. Doing all of them is time and money consuming so I recommend doing the three buildings tour to see the most of everything. I am giving four stars because the tours are only in German and the prices are quite expensive in my own opinion and the food options are very limited.

Burg Eisenhardt Hilltop stone palace with 12th-century origins, housing a history museum, a chapel & a library. The wall envelops an area of almost 2.5 acres with a keep and palace inside. It is a little more than 1000 years old yet well maintained structure and as a nice surprise it was hosting an art exhibition too. Free entry throughout the year and a good view across the town.
