About this route

Diepenheim is the smallest town in Twente and is also called 'Stedeke' by its inhabitants. In this town, where art and culture are highly valued, you can stroll past the most beautiful art galleries. In the past, this region was known for its high standard of living, which is immediately noticeable when you cycle past the Gardens and Castle Weldam and Castle Warmelo. A little further on, you might already hear them... Markelo is known for its bleating sheep. In the Borkeld nature reserve, which is part of the Sallandse Heuvelrug, the local shepherd walks his flock of sheep every day. It's nice to cycle past, but even nicer to get off and take a walk through the area. Besides the craft of sheep herding, you can also see other crafts in this region. Take a look at the Clog Museum in Goor or see the extensive traditional costume collection at the museum farm Eungs Schöppe. Hop on your bike if you want to enjoy art, nature, and bleating sheep.
