The Haßberge are one of those last cultural landscapes, which with their gently rolling, fragmented landscape and an almost inconceivable number of old half-timbered houses, farms and barns, seem to be a giant open-air museum. Magnificent historical decorative facades meet here simple, bourgeois residential houses as well as functional constructions that have provided animals and 'machines' with a safe roof over their heads for centuries. A landscape whose picture-book idyl has allowed many visitors to indulge in romantic, glorified memories. This region seems to have particularly influenced one of its residents, even inspiring him to international achievements: Friedrich Rückert. The probably greatest Franconian poet and writer grew up here - surrounded by half-timbered houses - and often returned to this place later in life. A tour for all those who enjoy half-timbered houses and would like to cycle through a picturesque landscape, where the world still seems to be in order. The tour starts at the historic marketplace of the town of Hofheim i.UFr. Through the gentle hills of the Haßberge and the half-timbered idyll of Reckertshausen, Friesenhausen, Happertshausen, Aidhausen, Wettringen, and Fuchsstadt, we first head to the Ellertshäuser See, the largest lake in Lower Franconia. Passing through Stadtlauringen with its impressive half-timbered ensemble in the marketplace, we follow the stream 'Lauer' to the birthplace of Friedrich Rückert: Oberlauringen. Here lies the Friedrich.Rückert.Poetikum: of course a beautifully restored half-timbered house where you can learn all about the linguistic genius from the Haßberge. Finally, the tour leads to the next half-timbered treasures Birnfeld and Nassach, passing by the castles of Wetzhausen and Craheim. After a short ride on the wooded southern slope of the Haßberg ridge, we return through Rottenstein to Friesenhausen and also back to Hofheim, where the tour - again surrounded by half-timbered houses - ends. Tips and further information. Refreshments: It is possible to stop for refreshments in Friesenhausen, Aidhausen, at the Ellertshäuser See, Stadtlauringen, Oberlauringen, and Friesenhausen. Back in Hofheim, there are also several dining options available. However, please check the current opening hours on site. Start: As a starting point, we recommend the marketplace of Hofheim i.UFr. Since it is a circular tour, you can join the tour at any point along the route. Explorer Guide: Detailed background information and exciting stories about the half-timbered houses in the Haßberge and the wonderful poet Friedrich Rückert can be found in the Explorer Guide!
