Zum Radioteleskop Effelsberg

Start point of the tour is Todenfeld near Rheinbach. Passing through the villages of Berg, Freisheim, Maulbach, Houverath, you reach the L113, which you follow for a bit before turning left at Scheuerheck and descending along farm roads and the village of Holzem to the Effelsberg radio telescope. The name Effelsberg is misleading, the huge parabolic mirror is hidden in a valley and is only visible just before. At halfway up, there is a snack bar. Through the village of Effelsberg, you climb back up to the L 234, which you follow to the right until the roundabout, where you exit at the third exit to return on the L 113 over Mahlberg to Michelsberg (588m), crowned by a solitary chapel. There are beautiful views on the way up. The descent leads directly down to Römerstraße/Reckerscheider Str. through Reckerscheid, Hummerzheim, Rupperath to the height of Sierscheid. Here, a magnificent panoramic view is offered. From here, you quickly descend into the Ahr valley, which you ride along to Altenahr. Here, there's one more opportunity to stop before the unavoidable climb initially on the B 257 and from Kalenborn on the L 78 via Hilberath back to Todenfeld. Note: The Michelsberg can of course be skipped. From Effelsberg, you can go directly to Hummerzheim and from there ride the rest of the tour.
