Märchenhaftes Grabfeld

Here a romantic water castle, there a mystical lake in the middle of the forest. An entire village full of witch houses and a park where fairy tales (almost) become reality. The southwestern part of Grabfeld could easily be the setting for many fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm. A landscape straight out of a storybook - with deep forests, wide views, and gentle meadows and fields. Tour The tour starts at the market square of Bad Königshofen, leading through the small village of Merkershausen to Kleinbardorf, where you can admire one of the most beautiful castles in the area, the Kleinbardorf Water Castle. The castle is surrounded by contemporary art and a sculpture garden that can be visited on foot. Through the idyllic countryside, the route continues to Sulzfeld and passes the local swimming lake. Along ancient fruit orchards, the path leads to Leinach, where a visit to the first German shepherd wagon hotel is definitely worth it (often with barbecue and coffee lounge during holidays). Inspired by the romanticism of shepherd wagons and fairy-tale magic, the route then ascends sportily from Leinach into the deep forests of the Haßberg ridge. A break at the picturesque Baunach Lake, located in the heart of the forest, more than compensates for the effort. The next highlight of the tour awaits just a few forest kilometers further: the Fairy Tale Forest of Sambachshof. From this family-oriented amusement park, the descent continues quickly down the other side of the Haßberg ridge. Don't miss the viewing point Grabfeldblick on your right, offering a wonderful view of the Grabfeld, Thuringia, and the Haßberge. Finally, through Althausen, we return to Merkershausen and back to Bad Königshofen. Tips and further information Start We recommend the market square of Bad Königshofen as the starting point. Since this is a circular tour, it is certainly possible to join anywhere along the route. Refreshment A stop along the way is possible in Sulzfeld, in Leinach or at Café Märchenwald in Sambachshof. Back in Bad Königshofen, there are several dining establishments available. Please check in advance for the current opening hours on site.
