Rüthener Waldroute

In the Sauerland-Radwelt, you will find cycling routes for mountain bikers, road cyclists, and active families.

The routes are marked according to a concept developed by the Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln. The moderately difficult loop leads through the Rüthener Stadtforst and Altenrüthener Wald. Here as well, hurricane Kyrill has left its mark, allowing for new views. At Kneblinghausen, you can see the remains of an ancient Roman-Germanic camp before returning to Rüthen across open fields.

Route progression:
From the starting point, the 'Hachtor', you will first ride a short distance through the historic city center of Rüthen toward the cemetery. This is located on the grounds of the former castle of the city. Right before the cemetery, turn right down the Borgberg and continue in the valley of the Kitzelbach. After crossing the B 516 and the river Möhne, the tour leads eastward parallel to the Möhne until the Hankerfeld industrial area, from there through the picturesque 'Bibertal', past the public swimming pool to the start of the 'Bibertal Forest Experience Trail'. Here, the route veers right. It goes up into the Rüthener Stadtwald. You will ride a longer stretch along the Höhenweg. Just before the Briloner Stadtwald, turn left onto the transverse path down into the Upper Bibertal, back up on the opposite side, and then back down to the Möhnetal. The B 516 is crossed again, and on the opposite side, you ascend the Hengelsbachtal. At the border with Büren (Historic Schnadstein/ border with Soest-Paderborn-Hochsauerlandkreis), head initially left up the hill and after 400 m, turn left toward the valley. After another 400 m, the route veers northwest and runs below the ridge of the Immenköpfe until the K 45. Follow that uphill and reach the edge of the forest where the turn is to the 'Römerlager Kneblinghausen'. Immediately after this, you will find the pastures of the 'Gestüt Wittekindshof', one of the most successful stud farms in Germany. Continue northward until just before the Meiste industrial area, which you will detour left. West of the village of Meiste, you follow the bike path comfortably back to the starting point in the city center of Rüthen.
