- Thursday, August 19, 2004 - 11th Stage: Triacastela - MelideBad weather It’s the third consecutive day of rain, but come on, let’s hang in there, there are just over 130 km to Santiago.Strong thunderstorms alternating with brief clearings and strong winds will accompany us throughout the day. While Marino opted for the Alto de Riocarso, I, Cristina, and Joserra take the route to Samos. We will all meet up again in Sarria when, in the attempt to withdraw cash from an ATM, due to an incorrect code, I find myself without a credit card. Fortunately, the good Marino succeeds in the withdrawal and the cash problem is solved. The kilometers pass with these brianzoli-like landscapes without a meter of flatness. Continuous climbs and descents between one downpour and another until Portomarin, where, having crossed the long bridge over the rio Mino, the road will be only a long, continuous climb to the Alto del Rosario. It’s 5:00 PM, the search for accommodation becomes difficult. After several unsuccessful attempts, we find a place to sleep in Melide in a gym.
