Tellego-Angliru

27 km route through Asturian territory that includes the ascent of the toughest climb in Spain.

We start in the beautiful and quiet town of Tellego, with a quick 4 km descent to the N-630 road. Once on this road, we head towards Morcin. This road has a good shoulder for riding, although there are some dangerous points such as a couple of tunnels with low visibility. We will continue on this route for 5 km passing through the towns of Argame and Santolaya until we take a right turn onto the AS-231 which we do not leave until the start of the climb. At this point, we already begin to feel a slight incline that will warm us up to tackle the climb in full condition.

Upon reaching the town of La Vega, we will see the sign for the start of the climb on our right and after a slight descent we will begin the ascent, 12 km to suffer and enjoy the toughest cycling.

The first 5 km are the gentlest of the ascent, although they are still tough as there are ramps of 9%. After passing several villages, we arrive at Viapara, a recreational area, where for one kilometer we can rest as the gradient drops to an average of 2.1% before reaching the steepest part of the climb, 6 km of walls where we will have to give everything we've got inside.

These last 6 kilometers are known as hell, with several ramps over 20%, such as Les Cabanes (22%), Los Picones (21.5%), Cobayos (20%), Les Cabres (23.6%), Aviru (21%) and Piedrasuines (20%), aside from the asphalt becoming much rougher and containing gravel. After overcoming this, only the last 500 meters remain, practically flat, to reach the summit of the Cycling Olympus.

The descent afterwards is a bit dangerous, not only because of the ramps and the pavement, but also because of the fog that comes in quickly and of animals like cows and horses grazing freely in the highest part of the climb. So we need to be a bit careful to tackle the descent and be able to tell everyone we have conquered the myth of the Angliru.
